About

I'm Penelope Slaney, known to almost everyone as Penny. I paint large-format, texture-heavy acrylic works designed to transform the rooms they live in.

I've always been drawn to the relationship between art, space and the way a room feels. Long before I picked up a brush with any seriousness, I was thinking about interiors — about how colour, texture and proportion shape the way we experience a space. That instinct for style has always been part of how I see the world.

I'm self-taught, which I think shows in the work, not as a limitation, but as a freedom. There are no rules I'm trying to follow or traditions I feel bound by. Each painting begins with an idea about feeling: what I want a room to carry, what I want someone to feel when they stop in front of it.

I began painting seriously a few year's ago. Our three daughters, Coco, Polly and Quincy are growing into their independence, and with that came something I hadn't had in years: time that was fully mine. I took it without hesitation.

My studio is at home. I paint in the mornings when the light is good and the house is quiet. The process is slow and deliberate, layers of acrylic gel and acrylic on canvas, built up over time, each one informing the next. Nothing is rushed. I don't think good work can be.

My paintings are for people who care about their spaces. For collectors, for interior designers, for anyone who has ever walked into a room and felt it needed something, something with weight, warmth, and a sense that it was made with intention.

If any of that resonates, I'd love to hear from you.
